Der Katalog enthaltet nur Schiffen und umfasst insgesamt die Vorder- und Rückseite 12 schwarz/weiss Seiten in dem Querformat DIN A5 und ist 4-sprachig: deutsch - englisch - franzözisch - spanisch.

Der Katalog ist gedruckt worden durch die graphische Kunstanstalt Zerreiss & Co aus Nürnberg. Da diese Zeile nur auf der Rückseite des Kataloges steht, muss angenommen werden, dass es um einem kompletten Katalog handelt ohne Fehlseiten.

Auf der Vorderseite des Kataloges ist das alte Fleischmann Firmenzeichen in Dreieck zu erkennen. Eine solche Layout ist schon bekannt von den 1933 und 1936 katalogen.

Das Fleischmann dreieckige Firmenzeichen wurde 1930 erstmals gebraucht bevor es 1949 durch das bekannte schräg geschriebene Firmenzeichen ersetzt wurde.

Auf der Vorderseite gibt es einer Händlerstempel:

Nach Studium in dem Stadarchiv von Amsterdam ist die folgende Information über Motz bekannt (stand: April 2011):

Unter den Namen N.V. agentuur en commissiehandel v/h C. Motz wurde 1935 einer Grossist gegründet, der nebst haushaltlichen und luxe Artikeln auch Spielzeug verkaufte. Dieser Firma war sicher bis 1962 tätig.

The catalog contains only tin ships and counts including the back- and frontcover 12 black/white pages. The format of the catalog is DIN A5 oblong and is printed in 4 languages: german - english - french - spanish.

The catalog was printed by Zerreiss & Co from Nürnberg. This info is on the backcover and for this reason I assume the catalog is complete without any missing pages or covers.

On the frontcover one can see the old Fleischmann logo, which is an abbreviation of the companies name within a triangular figure. Such a layout is well known from the 1933 and 1936 catalogs.

This triangular logo was introduced in 1930 and was substituted in 1949 by the well known logo, the Fleischmann name written in an inclined position.

On the frontcover one can see a traders stamp:

After a close study in the municipal archives of Amsterdam the following information about Motz is known (april 2011):

N.V. agentuur en commissiehandel v/h C. Motz. This company was established in 1935 and was still operative in 1962. The company was specialized in selling household, luxury goods and toys.

Algemeine Anmerkungen/Befindungen

Meine erste Gedanke war - nebst der Tatsache dass ich sehr erstaunt war -: es geht hier um einen Vorkriegskatalog aus dem Zeitraum 1937 - 1940, denn der Layout der Vorderseite mit dem alten dreieckigen Firmenzeichen ist schon bekannt von früheren Vorkriegs Katalogen.

Nach Studium der Artikelnummer, wie oben abgebildet, schlagte aber die Zweifel zu. Die Artikelnummer des unbekannten Kataloges stimmen nicht überein mit den Artikelnummern aus dem 1936 Katalog oder 1935/36 Katalog-Nachtrag obwohl die Bilder identisch sein. Die Artikelnummer stimmen aber überein mit den Artikelnummern des 1951 Fleischmann Kataloges. Dies tut das Vermuten reizen, dass es hier um einem Nachkriegskatalog handelt um 1946 - 1948, aber jedenfalls vor 1949.

Dank einer Hinweis des Nürnberger Spielzeugmuseums kann jetzt sicher gestellt worden, dass eine Umnummerierung nicht vor 1940 statt gefunden hat, denn laut einem Fleischmann Katalog-Nachtrag aus 1939 wurden noch alte Artikelnummer genutzt. Damit ist es nicht mehr annehmlich, dass der unbekannten Fleischmann Katalog ein Vorkriegskatalog sein sollte.

Die in dem 1936 aufgeführten Kriegschiffen sind nicht mehr in dem unbekannten Katalog aufgeführt.

Der noch in dem 1935/36 Katalog-Nachtrag vorgestellte Panzerkreuzer 527 und die Taucher stehen nicht mehr in dem unbekannten katalog.

Laut dem Firmenjubileumschrift aus 1987 ist auf Seite 27 zu lesen, dass am Ende der 30er Jahren noch 2 Ausführungen eines Frachtschiffes auf der markt gebracht wurden. Fast wie sicher handelt es sich hier um die Hochsee Frachtdampfer 890/30 und 890/39. In dem unbekannten Katalog stehen die Dampfer, aber sie sind nicht als ''Neuheit'' gekennzeichnet. Interessant wäre ob es für beide Frachtdampfer noch alte Artikelnummer zu finden sein!

Da das Sortiment in dem 1951 Katalog beschränkt ist gegenüber dem unbekannten Katalog halte ich nicht für ungewohn. Das Blechschiffe Sortiment Fleischmann wurde im laufe der 50er Jahren mehr und mehr erkleinert und wurde um 1955/56 endgültig aus dem Katalog gelöst.

Feststeht dass es 1949 und 1950 Einzelkataloge gegeben hat über Spur 0 (1949) und Dampfmaschinen (1949: Doll & Co und 1950: Fleischmann). Der 1951 Katalog ist den ersten Gesamtkatalog nach dem Krieg. In diesem Katalog ist wortlich beschrieben, dass alle bisherige Einzelkataloge in diesem (also 1951) Katalog wieder zusammengefasst worden sind. Dieser Information deutet also auch auf dem Bestehen einer Einzelkatalog mit nur Schiffen. Zwar vermutete ich das Bestehen solch eines Kataloges, aber Beweis dafür hatte ich nicht bis mir den unbekannten Katalog zur Gesicht bekam. Erst 2005 hatte ich eine Recherche rundum dieses Thema gemacht. Der Fleischmann Kundendienst hatte mir jedoch mitgeteilt, dass es nie einen Einzelkatalog über Schiffe gegeben hat.

Jetzt aber kann gestellt werden, dass es auch einen Einzelkatalog über Schiffe gibt, aber wann diesen Katalog genau ist ausgegeben ist kann ich noch immer nicht mit Sicherkeit feststellen.

Mir sind keine Publikationen bekannt in denen diesem katalog erwähnt wird. Deshalb bitte ich um Ihre Mithilfe rundum dieses Thema. Wer kann mehr Klarheit geben rundum das Jahreszahl dieses Kataloges? Wer kann mehr Information geben über der graphischen Kunstanstalt Zerreiss & Co? Wer kann genau angeben wann die Artikelnummierung geändert worden ist?

General remarks

My first impression about this catalog was - apart from the fact that I was completely surprised by this find - : it's a prewar booklet from around 1937 - 1940. This impression was mainly given by the old Fleischmann logo on the frontcover.

After studying the article numbers, the result of which can be viewed in the diagram above, I started hesitating about the year of publication. One can see, that the article numbers are different from the 1936 and 1935/36 catalogs, although a few years ly in between these catalogs and the unknown catalog, if one assumes it is a prewar catalog. The pictures however are similar to the ones as shown in the pre mentioned catalogs. The articlenumber of the unknown catalog however are similar to the 1951 Fleischmann catalog. This could be an indication that the catalog is a postwar booklet from 1946 - 1948, but certainly before 1949.

Thanks for the info as provided by the famous Nürnberger toymuseum it has now become clear, that the change of the articlenumbering did not take place before 1940. This indicates, that the unknown Fleischmann catalog is not a prewar issue.

All the warships as shown in the prewar catalogs are not shown in the unknown catalog

The model batlle ship 527 and divers as published in the 1935/36 catalog supplement are not shown anymore in the unknown catalog.

According to the Fleischmann jubilee book one can read on page 27, that at the end of the 1930's 2 models of the freight steamers came on the market. It's almost for certain, that the freight steamers 890/30 and 890/39 come into this place. The freight steamer are listed in the unknown catalog, but not as ''new items''. It would be interesting if one can find old article number for these steamers!

The 1951 sortiment for the ships has been declined in relationship with the unknown catalog. I consider this as a normal situation. The tin ship sortiment becam less popular after the war and the last ships were published around 1955/56.

It's for certain, that there have been separate catalogs for the Fleischmann sortiment: 1949 (0 gauge), 1949 (steam engines Doll & Co) and 1950 (steam engines Fleischmann). The 1951 catalog is the first postwar catalog with all the Fleischmann articles listed in one catalog. In the preface of this this catalog it was stated, that all the separate catalogs were put together into one (1951) catalog. This info suggests that there was a separate tin ship catalog. In 2005 I did have some research about this subject. The Fleischmann company wrote to me, that there has never been a separate catalog with tin ships only.

As from present time one can say now, that there is a separate catalog for tin ships, but the date of printing has until today not been clarified. I always have thought there was such a catalog, but had no proof for it.

I am not aware of any publication mentioning the unknown catalog. For this reason I need your help.Who can give more info about the printing date/year is issue of the unknown catalog? Who has more info about Zerreiss & Co? Who can give info about the exact date of the change of the articlenumbering?
